À propos de cet hébergement
Woodland Cabin in the Cairngorms National Park, Scottish Highlands
Built by us, for you. Arbor is a thoughtfully created retreat for two adults in the forest village of Nethy Bridge. Newly built and energy efficient, this timber-clad bothy with rusted tin roof echoes it's bothy ancestor which stood here before it. Spacious and light yet cosy and stylish, this wee cabin has all you need to adventure and relax in equal measure. Stargaze from your super-king bed, dine on the patio in the summer and snuggle up by the fire in the winter.
Retreat . Relax . Recharge
The space
Arbor bothy has been built to the highest standards meaning you will be as comfortable as can be during your stay. The high ceilings give a feeling of incredible light and spaciousness with views of trees from every window, while the underfloor heating and wood-burning stove keep you cosy inside. The bedroom hosts a sumptuous super king-size bed with fresh linen sheets and an overhead Velux for star and cloud gazing. All towels and bed linen are provided. The shower-room has a rainfall shower, wc and generous wash basin. In the kitchen area, you will find all you need for a self-catering vacation with oven and hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and all the essentials. In the living and dining area relax in a loveseat and armchair by the fireside and dine at table while planning the next day's adventures by the 4m high feature wall of the Cairngorms National Park. Leading out through sliding glass doors to the patio, where you can dine in the sitooterie, hang in the hammock chairs and stretch out on yoga mats which are provided. The bothy and surrounding garden area are completely private with a driveway leading to car parking right at the front door. A two minute walk from the bothy and you are in the Abernethy Forest with many trails to choose from. Walk to the top of our road and continue on for the Ryvoan Pass to Loch Morlich and beyond for longer adventures. Whether you wish to get away from it all to retreat in comfort or to explore the National Park, or a bit of both, Arbor has all you need to relax and recharge.
Guest access
During your stay, you have complete and private access to Arbor bothy, the bothy's private patio and car parking.
Other things to note
We live in the main house which is a short walk from the bothy and so will be here to welcome you and should you require any assistance. Amy is a jeweller and invites you to book into a jewellery making workshop during your stay including making your own wedding rings. Graham is an award-winning photographer and can guide you on the best places for landscape and wildlife photography.
Being in the Cairngorms National Park, we have some of Scotland's most iconic species in our mountains, forests and even gardens. Many birds, red squirrels, pine martins and more are frequent visitors and we keep our bird and squirrel feeders topped up for you to enjoying being in their company.

Qui vous reçoit ?
Vous êtes reçu par Graham Niven

We are Graham and Amy and we’re delighted to introduce you to Arbor Bothy + Gallery. It’s been a wild ride to get here. We have been thinking of you staying in our bothy for a while now and are delighted to say it’s ready for you! Graham has built the bothy to a luxurious standard using beautiful local materials, with a little help from some friends. Along with an art gallery, jewellery studio, bike shed, garage, garden tool shed… yes, he’s been rather productive!
Graham is also an award winning photographer and you will find Niven Photography adorning the walls of the bothy, most notably a giant canvas of the Lairig Ghru in the bedroom. More of his work can be viewed in our on-site Arbor Gallery alongside handmade jewellery by Amy, designer and maker at The Third Aye. You can book into a private jewellery making workshop with Amy during your stay using your guest discount, including our Wedding Rings Retreat package.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?
The Nethy dream… it’s generational.
We were like you, in love with Nethy Bridge and the surrounding landscape. We had visited since we were babies with our families and we kept coming back for more until we decided, we had to move here to raise our own young family.
There was just one prerequisite when we were looking for a house, it had to have enough space to build a bothy so we could share our love of the place with other adventurers. We wanted to be able to add to the community and bring our skills to locals and travellers alike. And so it began, we found this incredible property on Dell Road which had a wee bothy in the back of a huge garden. A lot of the gardens here have bothies as there was an old tradition of folk renting out their houses and staying in their bothies during the holiday seasons. The bothy was amazing and full of old artefacts, newspapers and even a note on the wall claiming it as the village cinema. With insulation made with moss and pine needles from the forest floor and timbers wearing away after years of service, it was time to take the old bothy back to the ground from which it had grown.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?
Graham built Arbor Bothy with his own bare hands!
It started with a sketch.
Graham started a sketch book, scribbling and jotting down ideas for how the bothy might look. There’s an old saying about older generations, “The boys were built like men and the men were built like horses.” Well, Graham has been toiling like a workhorse to raise this bothy and he has done so with incredible attention to detail. What he has achieved is a retreat which is cosy and comfortable yet spacious and light, made to the highest modern standards and efficiency yet nods to the old bothy which stood before it in carefully selected materials and design.
Our focus now shifts from building the bothy to building relationships with you, our lovely visitors. We can’t wait to welcome you into our dream, to share with you all the things about this place which make us so happy to call it our home.
