À propos de cet hébergement

Historic spacious Grade II Listed Georgian Farmhouse on the coast of Cornwall

Beautifully appointed this Georgian Grade II Listed historical Farmhouse delivers comfortable, stylish and generous accommodation. Sat in 2 acres of mature gardens with ponds and rivers this tranquil escape in the Cornish Countryside is a beautiful place to rest in nature. With a live TV link to our resident Barn Owl box become enthralled in beautiful nature with the best of the Cornish coast and countryside on your doorstep. A great base to explore from & return to, light the fire and relax.

Welcome to Cardwen Farmhouse, Cardwen Farm Holiday Cottages.
Our Farmhouse has origins in the 16th Century, as soon as you step through the doors through the thick stone walls onto the original slate flag stone flooring you know you have found yourself somewhere special. Originally the Farmhouse to a dairy farm, you can read the story of how generations added to the original building, leaving us with this wonderfully spacious home today. The ancestors of those early cornishmen have even scribed their names and dates into the walls of the barns. No longer an active farm, the 2.5 acre grounds and buildings have been converted into beautiful homes and accommodation and surrounded by over 220 varieties of Rhododendron, Camellia and Azalea. Once owned by a member of the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) the impressive mature garden has species of trees that couldn't be identified by a visitor who worked at Kew Gardens! The views across the gardens, ponds and rivers are a delight from all sides of the farmhouse. You will find your own pond side dedicated teak patio set, access to a BBQ, and more benches in the grounds than you may have time to sit at.
Sitting outside the Georgian frontage in the enclosed patio, you will most likely be able to watch Barn Owls fly in and out of their owl box at dusk and into the night. With very little light pollution here the star filled sky is not to be missed. With Bodmin Moor easily reached from here, stargazers will find Bodmin Moor offers exceptionally dark skies and its designation as an International Dark Sky Landscape means that 80 square miles of spectacular open countryside will be protected from the intrusion of damaging artificial lighting. The Milky Way can sometimes be seen so clearly it looks as if it touches the neighbouring field!

Cardwen Farmhouse is perfectly located to be just enough away from the madding crowd to enjoy a beautiful quiet, filled with birdsong each dawn. No narrow grassy lanes to get to us, our edge of village location means you can walk to the village pub, a butchers, hairdresser, and well stocked village shops. Pre-order groceries from the village shop to be delivered before you arrive. Pelynt is ideally placed between the beautiful historic harbour villages of Looe and Polperro. Firm visitor favourites. Picture postcard beautiful with enormous amounts of parking. In Looe you will find Michelin Star restaurant The Sardine Factory, and TV's Ben Palmer at the helm. With a different gastronomic delights to be found each day in our score of locally supplied restaurants you may not even feel the need to turn on the stove! Our fish here is of stunning quality, you can watch the fisherman land their boats and unload into the Fish Market, then sample the fish with 0 food miles in the restaurant of the same name, in the same building. How can you get fresher and better? Chef Fred is a local legend. Most importantly, after enjoying your complimentary cream tea on arrival, supplied by village based "From Cornwall with Love" make sure you leave room to head to Sarah's Pasties. The size, flavour and quality of these award winning pasties will ruin all other pasties for you. Sorry not sorry!
Moving over to Polperro, ask Siobhan, your host, to borrow a UV torch in order to comb the harbour beach. Lucky beach combers will find sea glass, but very unusual Victorian sea glass that glows under UV!

When ready to branch out further afield, having seen all the spots locally that are featured in many TV programmes, such as ITV's "Beyond Paradise" you will realise that you can easily access the A38 and A30 without any trouble and spread your travel wings. You cannot run out of things to do near here, either on foot, bus or by car. Having lived here for 5 years at time of writing I am still discovering new, beautiful and exciting places to explore, listen too and things to eat!

For those looking to explore a direction involving art, speak to your host about Art Workshops. A variety of activities are available including mark making with acrylics, wicker weaving and many more!

Current hosts took ownership in October 2011 and since then the feedback has been 5*.
Downstairs a large entrance room greets you with dual aspect views, travertine stone floors, a downstairs WC, travertine stone floors and the first of two staircases to the next floor. Walking into the large kitchen and dining space a beautiful commissioned farmhouse table with enough room for 8 people to the right and stylish white kitchen to the left. Granite worktops, large STOVE cooking range with electric and induction. Large cabinet storage and more kitchen utensils, cutlery, glasses and crockery than you will know what to do with. Even a vintage collection of teacups and saucers for those wishing to experience the complementary cream tea provided on arrival in a quintessentially English fashion.

Take a step into the large sitting room and note the worn curve in the slate flagstone, you are taking a step on the same spot as hundred of years of people have before you. The original large open fireplace remains here, with baking oven in the corner. Brought up to modern safety standards, in this large fireplace you will see a beautiful wood burner, laid ready for you to start a match with your first load of split dry logs stacked neatly nearby. Further baskets of wood can be collected in the old barn nearby. (Honesty box system for payment). The deep sofas face a very large flat screen HD SMART TV with internet connection for streaming and a Sky subscription for all the choice you could wish. Pass under the original beams, through the downstairs hallway with its skillet stone walls (most likely dug from the garden outside) into the second formal sitting room. Wainscoting meets a beautiful carved stone fireplace. This was most likely the sitting room historically used for Sunday best, or for entertaining the vicar in times gone by! A dedicated work space will be found here - a beautiful old desk and chair. Wifi is available throughout the house without extra charge, and is super fast.

Now take the second staircase that winds up past old walls to the bedrooms and family bathroom. The first King bedroom is very spacious with vaulted ceilings exposing beams that still have the roman numerals carved in hundreds of years ago. A recently upgraded ensuite shower is bright and clean, with lit and heated mirror cabinet over the sink.
Two more bedrooms appointed with a design flair that has been complimented many times over by visitors who enjoy the comfortable modern mattress on luxuriously adorned beds.
Many of the pieces of original artwork on the walls are painted in Cornwall by your host, Siobhan. Prints and cards can be bought if there are any pieces that grab you heart! The Georgian sash windows are a charming place to sit by and take a moment of quiet, and blackout lining on curtains and blinds ensures a good nights sleep.

With your host nearby, always happy to help and on hand for any advice or help needed, you have found a special place to make memories laughing around the large table with your nearest and dearest, with the embrace of a historical building making the time together extra special.

Lovely
We had a really lovely stay at Cardwen Farm, it’s a super holiday home with everything you could need. Lots of space and the gardens are beautiful. The farm house is very well positioned to visit all the nearby attractions and the local butcher in Pelynt was first class. Siobhan was a super host always responding quickly to messages and helped us with lots of local knowledge. We would definitely have no problem recommending and would love to return again. Thank you Siobhan.

Born in Bristol, I used to holiday in the area (only 4 miles from my now home) at every opportunity I could get. Truly love this slice of Cornwall. Happened to glance at the estate agent website whilst on our lovely holibob and the rest is history.....

Such a wonderful way to live, I live here on Cardwen Farm Holiday Cottages (no longer a working farm) and welcome visitors to our cottages. My time is spent between maintenance of the cottages and gardens, looking after the admin of my husbands business ( you can book driving lessons with us too!) and exploring everything I can to find the best recommendations! I love to paint and offer art workshops here too.

My husband and I are both retired Fire Service and moved here from Clevedon, North Somerset in October 2018. We have one son, William, and our head of guest relations is our extremely friendly cockapoo dog Archie.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

After two years of searching we found the jackpot here; great location because 1. No narrow grass filled lanes to get here. 2. Really quiet, but not too far away from anything, you can walk to the pub and the shops. 3. Stunning 2 acre gardens. 4. In between popular harbour villages of Looe and Polperro. 5. Easy access to other really beautiful places in Cornwall, easy to reach the A30 A38 and only 40 minutes off of the Tamar Bridge in the nearest city of Plymouth. 6. Fields and vineyards all around us, the smell of the salty sea on the air. 7. The walks, the nature, the stars in the sky, the food, the swimming, the art community, .... I could go on and on.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

History, character, space, comfort, attention to detail, cleanliness, how well stocked the kitchen is, the views, plentiful parking, how fast the wifi is. The free cream tea on arrival, the friendly (but brief) welcome, someone here to help if needed, style!, not just a building someone has as an investment -but lives three hours away and can't look after every little thing - the reputation of Cardwen Farm Holiday Cottages has been consistently excellent for over five years for a really good reason. I know how important holidays are, and I am determined to make sure everyone who stays with us has that 'wow' moment. Nothing worse than looking forward to a trip, travelling for hours only to be disappointed. I care!
