The nearby village of Orton is well worth a visit 2.7 miles away with its famous chocolate shop that offers handcrafted delights. For walkers, Orton Scar and the Howgills are an exciting prospect for an afternoon excursion, and it is easy to see why this beautiful landscape was so celebrated by renowned fell walker and author Alfred Wainwright. The pretty towns of Appleby, Kendal, Sedbergh and Penrith are all within touring distance with their excellent range of attractions, leisure and shopping facilities.
