À propos de cet hébergement
The Milk House, beautiful dairy cottage, pet friendly and beautiful views
The Milk House is a beautifully refurbished old dairy with wonderful views over our farmland and wood. We were with Holiday Lettings for 14 years and averaged 5 star rating the entire time. It is within a few minutes of Erlestoke woods, the Salisbury Plain & the Erlestoke 18 hole Golf Club. Stonehenge, Bath, Salisbury & Marlborough are all within 30 minutes.
There is a double bedroom on the ground floor with a bathroom next door, very good for the more immobile and at the other end of the cottage is a single bedroom (where, on request, we can put a proper 8th bed up), there is a toilet and basin in the next room. Upstairs is a twin room and a double room with a family bathroom in between, which has a beautiful antique roll top bath. All the bedrooms can fit in a cot (or two) or the 8th proper bed, depending on your group, We have furnished the Milk House with antique prints, furniture and old photographs of our historic dairy. We have taken a great deal of care to make it supremely comfortable with all the modern conveniences: lighting, fibre optic WiFi, playstations and everything you could need in a modern kitchen to cook and to entertain yet with a traditional touch.
There are many different walks to do directly from the house. We are next to the Salisbury Plain, the largest area of unspoilt chalk land in Europe. Erlestoke Woods are even closer and no one can miss the carpet of bluebells every spring. We have our own huge vegetable patch, orchard with plums, pears, and apples where you can pick produce and flowers in season right by the cottage. The house and buildings were built in the 18th century, and our wood was where the original saxon settlement here was founded, with coins still being found very recently by our neighbours. We are in idyllic surroundings with wonderful views over the edge of the Salisbury Plain. There is so much to do nearby yet it is lovely enough to just relax and do as much or as little as you want.
Getting here – The Milk House is 1.5 hours by car from Heathrow airport and 1 hr from Bristol Airport and 1.5 hrs from the ferries at Poole and Portsmouth. It is on the outskirts of the village of Erlestoke and a few minutes walk from the wonderful Salisbury Plain. Stonehenge, Bath, Salisbury and Marlborough are all within 30 minutes. About the area – Erlestoke is a beautiful village with local shops and pubs within a few minutes drive. The Salisbury Plain is very close and Erlestoke woods, famous for its November bonfire night and spring bluebells. Devizes is an historic market town 7 miles away with a colourful medieval past. The town enjoys a rich heritage of fine Georgian houses and a 19th century castle built on the site of a Norman stronghold. Devizes has boasted a castle for a thousand years. A fascinating Medieval Trail leaflet chronicles this and takes the visitor around the town to points of interest. The Wiltshire Heritage Museum, is home to outstanding collections tracing the history of Wiltshire. Wiltshire has so many attactions. The mighty standing stones of Avebury and Stonehenge are within 20 minutes; the medieval city of Salisbury with its magnificent Cathedral is within half an hour, and the cosmopolitan city of Bath is about 30 minutes away. Longleat Safari and Adventure Park is 20 minutes away and Stourhead with its wonderful gardens very close to that. There are many National Trust properties to go and visit, with dozens of historical Houses, Castles and gardens within 40 minutes. With over 6,000 years of history Wiltshire has attractions galore. Almost half of the county designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Wiltshire has over 8,200 paths for walkers and cyclists. You’ll also find plenty of tea rooms, pubs and restaurants, as well as interestingly different festivals and events throughout the year.
