I'm Jessi, an American living in Iceland. Together with my husband Jóhann (who's Icelandic), we own and manage the local restaurant Red House (The Red House) as well as 16 guest apartments and a small hostel here in Eyrarbakki.
Our apartments are located in the old fish factory in the heart of the village, right on the seaside. This large building was abandoned for many years after the harbor closed and the fishing industry shut down. Piece by piece, we are turning it into apartments for guests. It's perhaps not your typical vacation rental, because the apartments are purpose-built as guest accommodation—but it's a tiny village and we would like to invite more visitors to come and stay without taking family homes off the market. A small part of the building has a 36-bed hostel, and that's where we will meet you with the keys.
