Furnished cottage with large river view windows and a walk around deck. The cottage is an open floor plan with king size bed and a full-size sleeper sofa. A comfy twin mattress bed can also be provided. Enjoy relaxing and watch the river flow by from the swivel rocker recliner. Climate controlled AC/Heating unit. Wall mounted swivel TV for easy viewing 200 channel Dish TV. Wi-Fi is available and is fair to good for being in the woods.
The cottage has a mini refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and dishware. BBQ grille located on outside deck and propane is provided. There is a gas fire pit on the north river deck and a wood burning fire pit along the riverbank, wood provided.
The space
River Rise Cottage is set up to offer a relaxing and enjoyable experience to make lasting memories. The cottage has large windows with outstanding river views and a walk around deck that you can fish from. Should it rain, you can enjoy the sound of the rain on the metal roof. Several feet from the cottage is a screened porch overlooking the scenic river, with plenty of comfortable seating and a daybed... should you want to nap. From this location It's not uncommon to see wildlife. A wonderful place to enjoy your morning coffee or unwind in the evening bug free. Take a swing on the open porch, sit riverside at either our propane fire pit or have a campfire (firewood provided) which is also along the river nestled in the woods. We encourage guests to use the outdoor seating areas for the ultimate relaxation experience and to find your favorite spot! Bar-B-Q with our easy-to-use propane grill (utensils and grill pans provided). Our fish station makes cleaning your catch a breeze! Also available a full-size fridge located on the screened porch in addition to the mini fridge in the cottage.
Guest access
Large open deck with ladder access to the floating dock which is perfect for mooring your boat or launching kayaks. Kayaks are available for guest use. Provided are (2) single person (1) fishing single person and (1) two-person tandem kayaks with life vest.
We offer a complimentary shuttle service for the 5-mile downstream Aucilla River to the Gulf of Mexico trip. This can be scheduled after your check-in. Use of the kayaks are at your "own risk" with no host liability.
We encourage guest to enjoy the common areas porches at back of main house. Camp chairs are provided and can be used at the fire pit and along the riverbank.
A public boat ramp is located within 300 yards north of the property and we have ample storage for you boat trailer during your stay.
Other things to note: My husband and I live full time in the main house; however, we respect our guest’s privacy and our interaction is catered to each guests preference.
We are both retired, enjoying our little piece of heaven, and hosting River Rise Cottage. We love Florida's "Forgotten Coast" and believe you will as well!

A beautiful stay by the river

We had a very relaxing stay here- such a beautiful space in one of the most untouched natural Florida landscapes. Michael and Audrey were very accommodating and gave us plenty of privacy. Kayaking down the Aucilla River was unforgettable. Would love to come back and stay when we are in the area.

Anniversary on the river

My wife and I walked up to the tranquil sounds of a flowing river into a very clean cottage. Chilled wine for our anniversary welcomed us with a personalized welcoming book. The bed was large and comfy, Audrey and her daughter I believe actually researched what bed to put into their cottage for guests. The best experience honestly was meeting Mike and Audrey. Two very welcoming people who are knowledgeable about where to get a bite to eat along with some lessons in life for anyone staying with them. Very calm and relaxing home away from home feeling. Can't wait to come back when the manatees move up river. Thank you Mike and Audrey for an amazing stay and new friendship. The Fox's

A special place

Michael and Audrey were gracious hosts for this amazing cabin adjacent to their home. They gave us all the space and privacy needed but also were easily available to provide anything that was needed. A very clean and comfortable place to stay. Incredible location over the water. Beautiful surroundings and so many outdoor activities to do. My brother and I each brought our teenage sons and we all had an amazing time. Can’t wait to come back!

Aucilla River house

My old friend from North Alabama and I stayed at the river house and we turkey hunted from there. My friend got to meet several of my lifelong friends and I had prepared several dishes. Great atmosphere, great food and great friends a perfect time.

Peaceful Stay!

River Rise Cottage is a gem hidden in old Florida! The moment we got there I sensed the peacefulness of the place! Audrey and Michael were the best host ever! Some of the most kindest & generous couple you would ever want to meet! We so enjoyed the fishing. Sitting inside on a rainy day was so lovely just watching the raindrops hitting the water in the river! The perfect place to slow down and enjoy nature!

Peaceful Riverfront Escape

A lovely rural setting with a private cottage literally overlooking the river. A wrap-around deck is right on and slightly overtop the river - lovely! Property manager lives next door and yet it's a private feeling. Very convenient to Tallahassee and the ocean. Enjoyed a morning at Wakulla Springs State Park which is also an easy drive and highly recommended! Enjoy swimming in the springs and take a boat cruise into the springs to see birds, alligators, etc. This is mentioned in the property description but just a quick reminder there is no stove, dishwasher, kitchen sink. Dirty dishes are left in a container outside and owner restocks. If you're a taller person you may find parts of the ceiling rather low - example, in the shower. Overall, a very nice stay in a beautiful area of northern Florida. I felt very safe as a solo female traveler also.

RIVER LIFE

We enjoyed this serene location and cozy cottage. Audrey and Michael have created an ideal vacation setting to enjoy life on the Aucilla River. We enjoyed the wildlife, sounds of the birds and wind in the trees that lulls one into complete relaxation. Michael went out of his way to make our kayaking trip down the river so easy by meeting us at the end of our paddle, loading us up and taking us home. They share their little piece of heaven generously while providing privacy as well. Very impressive location and hosts.

A Little Piece of Heaven on the River

My stay at the River Rise Cottage was wonderful. Incredible rive views from both inside and outside the cottage. A great place to relax and unwind. Warm welcome from the Hosts and a peaceful wooded environment made the cottage a great place to stay.

The hosts were very hospitable and helpful and the cabin was roomy and comfortable. We used the outdoor kitchen for several meals and enjoyed the fire pit.

Nature lovers paradise

38th Anniversary Weekend

What a wonderful get-a-way weekend! Audrey and Michael are just the best hosts! This cottage is the perfect place to go rest and unwind. It was so clean and cool, the king-size bed was comfortable as were the sofa and recliner. The scenery is so beautiful and peaceful. The river runs right outside the window. We took our boat and enjoyed several days of cruising the river and fishing. There isn't a stove but there is a very nice grill and also a refrigerator and microwave. We enjoyed grilled steaks and baked potatoes! Restaurants are a short distance away. All I can tell you is... if you are looking to get away from it all and finding somewhere you can have a simply comfortable and relaxing time... This is your place. Bring your boat! The boat ramp is within walking distance of the cottage. We're planning a return visit in a few months. I'm already looking forward to building campfires in the fire pit. Wood is stacked up and waiting! As you can tell... I was looking for somewhere comfy and cozy... restful... and a great place for adventures in our boat! I got it! and more! Thank you, Audrey and Michael! Our anniversary was perfect!

We absolutely love Mike, Audrey, and Lana!!!

Everything about this trip was perfect!! The hudgins went above and beyond for us for our honeymoon! We went kayaking down the river and Mike was there waiting for us at the end to shuttle us back to the cottage!! Great conversations with amazing people! We love you and will never forget the great experience you gave us!!!

I’m a Michigan transplant who has called Florida home since 1979. My wife Audrey is a fourth generation Floridian. We both enjoy fishing, gardening, quality time with friends and family and exploring nature in one of the many nearby wildlife management areas. I enjoy a campfire, photographing nature and cooking for family get-togethers. I especially enjoy a nap on the screened porch day bed during a rainstorm. Being an avid hunter any day in the woods is a good day for me! Audrey enjoys antiques, thrift store shopping, reading, trying new recipes, and cooking family favorites bike rides on one of the nearby bike trails and any day at the beach is a good day for her! We are both devoted to criminal justice reform and work together writing Op-eds, meeting with legislators, and attending criminal justice hearings. We share our home with Dixie Blue our loving Boston Terrier/ Siberian Husky mix. She is our baby who keeps us laughing and on our toes with her bossy self ! We love our little piece of heaven here on the Aucilla River and hosting guests in our riverfront cottage.
