Umbia's best villa, great location, special place

This villa is a step back in time. We arrived with a full refrigerator of food, and a welcome meal cooked by their chefs. The location is convenient to wonderful day trips exploring Umbia and Rome. We had our family of 9 including a baby. Everything about the villa made it easy and comfortable. Our days were spent enjoy Umbria, and Roma and all of the historical sites. We would return to the villa to enjoy the warmth of the wood stove, playing games, making dinners, sleeping well, enjoyed the views from our windows, and exploring the villa's surrounding, There is a sweet chapel next to the villa that was open Sunday night and I sang my heart out all by myself. I felt the spiritual history in that space. The owners worked with us for a year using their knowledge of sites to see, travel tips, and anything else you could think of to allow for this to be a magical trip for our whole family! Thank you for everything!

The heart of Umbria

Simona greets you on your first night with a delicious and authentic Umbrian dinner. It sets the tome for the adventures to come - Italian warmth, hospitality, family and great food. The location couldn’t be better for experiencing all Umbria and Tuscany have to offer.

The villa was wonderful!Charming, quiet, & unique!

The villa was beautifully maintained and clean while still keeping its original character. Every detail was attended to and our every need was anticipated (maps of Italy, outlet converters, olive oil,, playing cards, and more). We were welcomed by a delicious dinner cooked by a local chef . The house manager even met us upon our arrival and gave us a tour of the house and explained how everything worked. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our week there.

Rocca di Benano is Very Pleasant

The villa is very nice, especially for a 1000 year old place ( with obvious updates...lol) Our personal chef, Simona Fabrizi, and her sous chef, Laura made our first evening there so memorable and delectable. Could definitely get used to that! Deliciso! Benano is so much smaller than we expected and had no amenities in the medieval walled village like cafe or shops of any sort so we had to drive everywhere for food and entertainment. That's not to say that Benano is not pleasantly quaint. However, we were under the impression though that there were things to do there besides walk and look at the glorious views. This is the reason for only 4 stars. The best part of Rocca di Benano is that it is perfect landing place from which to take day trips at your own leisure or with your own concierge if he is available for your travel dates. He was not for ours but it didn't hamper our enjoyment of the Italian countryside. Driving in the countryside is much easier than the helter skelter experiences in the larger cities. GPS is recommended - smart phone GPS works fine. Not sure what our elderly neighbors of our villa thought about our group but they were very polite and kept to themselves for the most part. We probably intimidated them with our party of 8 adults....LOL. Fell in love with Italy and will plan on seeing more of this beautiful country in the future.

The Villa was wonderful exceeding our expectations

The Villa exceeded the expectations of our group of 3 couples. Karen had prepared for our arrival with dinner prepared by Semona (loved by all). We later enjoyed a cooking class by Chef Semona at her farm house. Karen also had someone to shop for food for our week and thought out the special needs for us in detail. The villa was very clean and the location was central to the hill towns we wished to visit plus the neighbors were very friendly. Daily, we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast in the dining room or outside on the patio prepared by Francis. Last of all, the connection to have Francis as our guide made our trip the best. He arranged for the rental van, drove, knew where to take us and where the best dining spots were located. It was a great feeling to return to the villa after a day of travel to unwind, relax, share the day's stories and photos and have a good night sleep before the next day's adventure. Internet/wifi in the villa was very good which was important to all of us. We all highly recommend the villa in Rocco de Benano in Umbria to anyone wishing to discover hill towns of central Italy.

Cozy and Comfortable Villa in Umbria

We stayed and Rocca di Benano for a week in late August. The villa is located in a small village with approximately 12-15 inhabitants who are the local flavor. Upon arrival, we were given a tour of the villa by Daria. The villa was larger than I expected with five bedrooms spread over four levels--a lower level, main floor, and two upper floors. The bedrooms were very good-sized, especially the room that we occupied on the top floor, and three of the bathrooms are ample (the first floor bath is under the stairs and a bit cramped for adults). The living areas have plenty of room, the dining room is large enough for 8-10 people, and the kitchen, while somewhat small, is very well-equipped if you choose to cook and eat in. There is a patio off the lower level that we used late afternoon. The villa is located near several hill towns, such as Orvieto, and an easy drive to Lake Bolsena and Tuscany. We took a two-hour drive to Florence for a day; however, as Karen's welcome packet indicates, there are plenty of sites and activities nearby. The welcome dinner and a second dinner with Simona were fabulous. She and her assistant Laura showed up on time, made two spectacular meals, and were very friendly and personable. We went to Simona's farm house later in the week for a four-hour cooking class that included lunch and wine. If you book the villa and have not been to Umbria/Tuscany (and even if you have), we highly recommend hiring Francis Surman as your assistant/concierge/driver. He was very helpful in planning our trip, including the Rome segment that preceded our visit to Benano where he made restaurant recommendations and connected us with guides for the city and the Vatican. Francis took us to some sites and restaurants in Umbria and Tuscany that we could not have found on our own, and he seemed to know every restaurant owner, wine maker, and guide who we encountered during our stay. In addition to driving, he helped navigate the language, menus, wine lists, and museums. He made our trip special, and we made a life-long friend. We highly recommend Rocca di Benano as a place to spend time in Italy.

It was so wonderful that I almost don't want anyone else to find out about it..

Starting with the welcome dinner is brilliant. The quality of this house is only superceded by the customer service of Karen, the owner and everyone that works with her to make the stay at the villa comfortable and easy. Highly, highly recommend!

Perfect villa

Rocca di Benano was amazing for our family! Our week at the villa was the highlight from our 2 week vacation. All the rooms are decorated beautifully and bathrooms are modernized. Location was great for many day trips to Assissi and Tuscany. Karen was so helpful with directions, ideas and instructions for the villa. She responded timely when we had questions. The welcome meal was perfect after travelling and the chef, Simona, prepared a delicious dinner. I would definitely recommend staying at this villa and hiring Simona for additional meals or cooking class.

Beautiful villa in a gorgeous setting

Our extended family of 10 stayed at Rocca di Benano for a week before heading into Rome for a weekend. We enjoyed the feeling of being out in the country but only having a short drive into town for groceries or a cappuccino. The villa is impeccably maintained inside and out (the roses on the terrace are stunning, and it's impossible to get used to the view over the valley that greets you each morning!) The welcome dinner is such a thoughtful gesture: you simply arrive and know that the first night's meal and morning coffee is taken care of while you settle in. Simona is a joy, and the food was so delicious! We also signed up for a cooking class at her farm, which was wonderful. As others have noted, the real asset is having Karen (and Paul) as your personal consultants -- we peppered Karen with questions and she always responded promptly, and she and Paul went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience, including checking out a winery we'd heard good things about (Madonna del Latte, which was excellent and well worth the visit -- be sure to get the tasting with the local goat cheeses!), and recommending an off-the-beaten-path dinner restaurant (Jovez -- you just tell them about any dietary restrictions and watch as the courses come in -- come hungry). We were traveling with children (ranging in age from 4 to 12) and it was wonderful to have a home base from which to explore Umbria.

Beautiful Benano

Our third vacation at the Rocco Di Benano villa was as wonderful as our first two. This time my wife and I enjoyed it with eight good friends. It was sort of a "Big Chill Comes To Umbria" experience. Each couple had their own cozy bedroom and the four big bathrooms were spotless and very modern. There are so many rooms and hidden places to relax we had couples playing Bridge in the dining room while others drank wine on the patio and others found comfy sofas to read their books or work on their laptops. Having a complimentary delicious four-course dinner prepared for us by the villa's chef on the nite of our arrival was simply decadent. We cooked-in a couple of times and the kitchen had all the appliances and cookware we needed. We had changing weather so we used both the heat and the AC. And it was so convenient to have a washer and dryer right downstairs. Such luxury. We took day trips to Orvieto, Asissi, and Civita di Bagno Reggio. The gals really enjoyed the cooking/wine class recommended by owner Karen Smith. Karen provided our group with incredible service. I'm already planning for our fourth trip to Beautiful Benano. A once-in-a-lifetime exprience!

From the lovely drive to Benano to the wondeful villa, we loved it all. The property is charming and very well maintained. The kitchen was fully equipped, and we enjoyed gathering around the table for meals and snacks. The owners provide a wonderful welcome dinner prepared by a chef who also conducts a cooking school -- all that in additionto delicious wine. The stunning views in Umbria and Tuscany are simply breathtaking! I could go on and on, but suffice it to say "Go to Rocca de Benano for a wonderful taste of Italy."

We had high expectations and they were exceeded.

The villa was more than comfortable -- and there were 10 of us. This is far more than a rental. Every room is comfortable and guest-friendly. The views from the villa are stunning. A walk (or jog) in the area is peaceful and refreshing. Paul and Karen's "book" is full of comments and suggestions. It not only describes in detail the many things that can be done on day trips throughout Umbria and Tuscany (and every one of them is interesting and fun), it also gives tips and information about the property itself which make the stay even more comfortable. The welcome dinner is a feast. Chef Simona is a charmer and made the evening a really fun (and delicious) event.

Trip of a Lifetime!

Trip of a Lifetime! Thank you for the incredible stay at your beautiful Italian villa! From the moment our entire family arrived, we were blown away by the hospitality. The villa was absolutely perfect and fully stocked with our favorite items which made us comfortable. The detailed manual provided along with the fabulous contact via email was one of a kind! We had the pleasure of staying at Benano during Holy Week which was an unforgettable experience. The small community welcomed us to their palm service and mass and were incredibly kind. My husband, both of our parents, my sister and brother and law and niece had the most unforgettable trip. From cooking classes with Simona, private dinners, day trips to Florence and Rome and an unforgettable wine tasting and lunch at Fanti and our afternoon in Cortona followed up with dinner at Il Falconiere--we had the trip of a lifetime making memories together! Simona cooked the most amazing Italian meals and shared a half-day cooking class in her one-of-a-kind custom kitchen at her private home. Not to mention, she was incredibly sweet and welcoming! We loved her! My sister and brother-in-law even hired a photographer to come and take family photos at Benano. Truly one of the best trips ever thanks to Karen and her incredible team. We would highly recommend this villa to all of our friends and family. We hope to return for another vacation soon at Benano!

Perfect place to explore Umbria!

We had a fantastic stay at Rocca di Benano over the week before and through Easter. The beautifully restored villa was easy to find with views overlooking olive groves and the valley headed towards Orvieto. We stayed in a beautiful guest room on the top floor; a perfect blend of modern with the original rustic stonework and wood beams. Benano served as a great jumping off point for explorations of the surrounding towns. A definite highlight was spending the evening of Good Friday in Bolsena, a beautiful lakeside town nearby. We found easy parking and had a lovely dinner at one of the restaurants right on the lake. Then came a highlight of the whole trip: getting to watch the full Good Friday procession through the town! It starts with a reenactment of the Last Supper in town and then Jesus, his Roman captors and followers process through town, with everyone joining in the procession. From the Romans on horseback to the torch light bouncing off the walls of the ancient town, it was an incredibly beautiful and moving experience, totally unlike anything I've seen before. I felt lucky to be able to participate in it. Thanks to the owner, Karen, for the great recommendation! We also loved Orvieto. Though we didn't take up any of the tours on offer, the city was rich in history and we enjoyed just wandering around and taking in the gorgeous Duomo. We enjoyed great meals there as well as excellent shopping. Other excellent day trips included trips to Sienna and Civita, both of which we'd highly recommend. We also had an excellent dinner in Montalcino -- home to a famous red wine -- and picked up some bottles to take home as gifts. Another highlight was a cooking class from Simona of Sagra in Casa, at her beautiful home in the country side. She taught us how to clean & prepare artichoke -- which we learned to love in Italy -- make home-made pasta and a delicious pear dessert, all accompanied by wonderful wine. It was a truly wonderful day and we've used our newfound cooking skills back home. Another wonderful highlight recommended by Karen! We cannot recommend Rocca di Benano enough! The home was extremely comfortable -- we felt spoiled -- and located perfectly. Thanks to Karen for an unforgettable vacation!

Charming Villa centrally located in Umbria

Rocca di Benano is one of those charming and rustic villa's that is too good to be true! Centrally located in the small Umbrian hamlet of Benano, this villa is fully equipped for modern day travel enthusiasts. Although the ancient town is very quiet and small, the folks who reside there are friendly and enjoyable. The villa, which is located smack in the middle of the village, offers all of the standard amenities, including fully stocked kitchen, wine cellar, elevated outdoor patio, WIFI, and numerous travel books and information for many adventures. From the Villa, you can take nature walks and explore many of the legendary Umbrian towns located nearby such as Orvieto, Torre Alfina, Spoleto, Lake Bolsena, and Perugia. The Owners also have arranged with a local and quite talented Chef who will cook you fabulous meals and provide to you a great cooking class. I could go on and on, let's just say, that Rocca is more than you could ever imagine!!

Beautiful Villa

We recently stayed at this beautifully renovated villa situated in the quiet countryside. Had a feeling like home. Great central location for day trips and relaxing evenings. The welcome dinner was a great convenience after a day of travel to get to the villa. The owners go out of their way to make your experience memorable. We enjoyed large lunches at the cities we visited each day and elected to have nice casual dinners at the villa. You can get chefs to come in or get catering, but we fended for ourselves. Definitely consider this villa if you plan to travel to Italy.

Stunning Italian Villa - Perfect for Famiy Trip

Our entire family, including one year old granddaughter, thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rocca Di Benano. The location near Orvieto is perfect for day trips throughout northern Italy. And Orvieto itself is charming and inviting. The owners went above and beyond to insure that we not only had a wonderful place to stay but also that we received helpful and useful information about the region. The cooking class with Chef Simona was definitely a highlight. Besides being a wonderful cook, she is charming, engaging and a patient teacher. We would definitely recommend this cooking class. All in all, it was a wonderful experience that none of us will soon forget!

Thank you for making our memorable journey even more memorable

This was a trip my siblings and I planned after our mother died. She loved Italy, and wanted her ashes scattered in Florence. The three of us and our spouses arranged to stay at Rocca di Benano over a year before we actually left. I worried that a trip in July would be miserable; my European friend refuses to travel to Italy in the summer. But one of our party is a teacher, and summer is the only time she could come. Although we welcomed the air conditioning upon our arrival, as Italy was in the grip of a heat wave, we quickly learned we didn't really need it. There was nearly always a cool breeze, and we slept comfortably even on the top floor with open windows. The owners provide everything you could hope for to make your stay comfortable. All house rules are clearly provided, and there are tons of resources for planning day trips. We loved Orvietto, and spent two of our days exploring its streets and views, and a tour of the caves below. This is a perfect location for exploring central Italy; we had day trips to Florence, Assisi, and Montepulciano, as well as the many smaller towns close to Benano, like Aquapendiente and Torre Alfino, where we had our final dinner out together. Runners and walkers will find plenty of places to exercise while in Benano -- some easy, some challenging. And for city dwellers like us, the night-time stargazing was a real treat. I could not have asked for a better place for our family to gather and memorialize our mother than in Rocca di Benano. Mille grazie to Karen and Paul for hosting us.

Four Week Late Spring 2017 Stay at Rocca di Benano

I leased the five bedroom Rocca di Benano villa from May 26th to June 23rd. Our stay there exceeded the expectations not only of myself, but also of all family members and close friends who joined us throughout the four week period. Visitors ranged in age from 20 to 85 years. Without a single exception, every individual who visited with us has contacted me afterwards and said that it was the most enjoyable vacation they had ever taken. Some of these individuals had previously traveled extensively in Italy, Europe and internationally. The reasons they gave for such high praise were: the accommodations; the peaceful setting, vistas and friendly surroundings; the walking and jogging paths; the neighboring towns of Castel Viscardo, Todi and, of course, Orvieto. The central location of Orvieto permitted enjoyable day trips to an amazing number of beautiful sites, as well as major cities. Personally, and I speak for two others who spent the entire time at the villa, what stands out most prominently in reflecting on the experience was the friendliness of the Benano townspeople, the property managers, and our communications with Karen Smith, the owner. Another high point was the four visits of Simona, a personable private chef from SAGRA IN CASA, who lectured and entertained all while preparing and serving outstanding Umbrian dinners. There is a high probability we will return at a future date. T. Roger

Family trip to Benano

Our family trip to Benano was a comfortable and well-apportioned Italian stay with space enough to accommodate the sounds and schedules of grandkids (age 18 months to 20 years old), parents, and grandparents. Karen gave us plenty of info on what to expect and where to go that left us well fed, well-traveled, and pleased with the variety and depth of a week in Umbria. We would (and probably will!) go back again. Rocca di Benano itself is lovely. The views and relative quiet of the surrounding countryside are innately grounding and, for me, had the effect of creating an easy buffer between the demands of my daily life and the pleasures of vacation. The room setup (across multiple floors) easily accommodated those in our group that like alone time, while also providing more than enough spacious common areas to allow for all 10 of us to cook the occasional dinner in and appreciate the local wines until late into the evening. Honestly, I felt we only just scratched the surface of what the area has to offer during our one week at Benano. After Benano, we spent a few days in Rome among the hordes of other tourists and the grimy hustle and bustle of Italy's capital. While we enjoyed our time in Rome, it reinforced for us the calming and restorative properties of Benano, which is like a countryside palace -- an oasis that I now know has been there, in some form, for millennia (the wine cellar is built on an Etruscan foundations, for crying out loud!). Also, I can't emphasize enough that Karen is more responsive and generous with her time than one could reasonably expect -- she takes her role as host very seriously and is clearly, herself, enamored with Benano and its surrounds. The personal touches and details at Benano show that a lot (a lot!) of time and thought has gone into anticipating questions and providing simple, easy answers. In the lead up to the trip, Karen responded to our many email inquiries with paragraphs of detail and with options for us to consider. She found us a pack n' play for our 18-month old that was perfect, explored baby-sitting options for us, and helped us think through kid-related issues. Having that support and attention, in my experience, is a difference maker in terms of quality of vacation. We lacked for nothing. All 10 of our party found Benano to be relaxing, fun, and satisfying as a home base for Italian adventures. I recommend it.

Amazing villa in beautiful setting

Our group of 5 couples spent a great week at Rocca di Benano. The villa is beautiful and immaculate. Karen gives you any and all information needed for enjoying both the villa and the surrounding countryside. Everyone's accommodations were spread out and the common areas gave us plenty of room to socialize. The terrace was where everyone met for early morning coffee/lattes and late night drinks. We had our first night dinner prepared by Simona Fabrizio which was excellent. On Sunday night we had dinner catered by Chef Lorenzo of Ristorante Zeppelin in Orvieto. It was a meal we will never forget. We had enough food for 20 people and the wine Lorenzo brought was tremendous. Everyone made day trips from Bennano and the adventures driving were numerous and led to long stories when everyone regrouped each night. The residents of Benano were friendly and Macco the dog was a hit. I highly recommend Rocca di Benano for a memorable Italian vacation experience.

Everything we hoped for and More!

A group of 10 of us, 5 couples, all empty nesters, just returned from two weeks in Italy where we spent a week at Rocca di Benano. What an amazing week it was. First, the Villa is elegant and comfortable, with attention to detail in every corner. The beds, pillows and linens were all of top quality, allowing for restful nights after our busy days. The space was adequate for our large group, without feeling crowded. As mentioned by others, Karen is one of the best parts of this rental. She is always available to answer any questions and is full of suggestions for adventures of all types. We explored several nearby towns, including Orvieto, Siena, Multipulciano, etc. that are easily within an hour or two drive. A highlight for our group was a cooking lesson by Simona at her nearby farm, just one of the enjoyable experiences available to guests. We also had dinner prepared for us by Simona's chefs three of the nights we were there. They came to the villa, prepared gourmet Italian fare, served us and cleaned up. Combining that with the wonderful house wine supplied by Karen, we LOVED everything about those evenings! The neighbors in this small walled village are all friendly and our attempts to communicate with them with our English and their Italian made for lots of smiles all around! Bottom line, if you are looking for a unique home base for your vacation in central Italy, we highly recommend Rocca di Benano!

Can't wait to return!!!

We’ve been searching for words to adequately describe our Rocca di Benano experience. Wonderful, fabulous, beautiful, awesome, memorable…just a few words that come to mind. It was quite simply – perfect. Rocca di Benano was the perfect home away from home as our family enjoyed a week-long vacation in Italy. When we arrived at the airport in Rome, we were greeted by the best driver in the world, Francis. He not only helped us navigate through our itinerary, Francis served as an extremely knowledgeable tour guide who made our travels through Italy interesting, enjoyable and a lot of fun! From the airport to the fountains of Tivoli, our journey to Rocca di Benano was marvelous. It was hard to imagine that the first day could get any better. Then we entered the villa…and wow. Rocca di Benano is absolutely stunning and beautifully decorated. Each room has its own character and charm. It is peaceful, and yes, perfect. Karen’s attention to detail is quite evident, not only at the villa but in the way she prepares her guests for the trip. Rocca di Benano is centrally located which allowed us to take day trips and fully enjoy Italy. We were able to experience Rome (The Colosseum and Vatican Museum), Florence, Pisa, Pompeii, Tuscany and Orvieto. We fell in love with the hill town of Civita di Bagnoregio, Torre Alfina and the Sorrento coast. Each day brought more joy and excitement as we enjoyed the great food, culture and awe inspiring scenery. It was an amazing week that left us wanting more – more of Italy and more of Rocca di Benano. In fact, we are already making plans to return!

Hill top Paradise

Having just completed a week stay at Rocca di Benano, I can only say WOW!! So beautiful and well appointed. The owners provide such complete information and connections to everything you need for an incredible Italian experience. 9 of us stayed comfortably in this elegant ancient villa. A dinner recommended by the owner and prepared by locals greeted us our first night and it was fabulouso. Day trips to local hill towns, a winery and the local villages made each day an adventure to remember. A highlight was the Machinna di Santa Rosa-I have never seen anything like it! Just another example of a great recommendation by the owner of this amazing property. The people who live in the village were welcoming and kind even though we did not speak their language. I promise you this is an experience full of comfort, fun, history, and adventure.

We (Karen and Paul) live in Cincinnati, Ohio and I (Karen) retired from corporate America at about the same time we bought the villa. Without ever planning it to happen, renting and managing Rocca di Benano became my "encore career."

Early on, it became evident that fantastic customer service is be a marketable advantage. I understand the questions that travelers have when they're considering a stay in a rural Italian village. For example, I wouldn't drive in a big Italian city (or in downtown Manhattan, for that matter) on a bet, so when I say that driving around Central Italy is easy, our guests can trust my judgement. I understand travelers' questions because I've been there.

We get to Benano regularly, and we make it our mission to research ways for guests to make the most of their time in Italy. And I spend a lot of time with our guests sharing what we've learned and helping them prepare for a trip of a lifetime.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

A recent guest's comment captures a big part of what's so special about Rocca di Benano. He wrote: "It was a bit surreal spending a week at Rocca di Benano. By day, we mostly visited and marveled at neighboring ancient hilltop towns, and then had the opportunity to actually lodge in this similar yet much smaller village. You get to witness and enjoy some day-to-day life of the villagers who seem to regularly sit along the street and chat each evening. Their greetings were all so welcoming. The villa provides great views of the countryside whether from a window or the patio. It was very comfortable, well designed, and includes all the modern conveniences. Very clean. It was well supported with resourceful instructions, staff, and suggestions for day trips, restaurants, etc. Highly recommend the experience!"

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

Benano is the perfect location for exploring Tuscany and Umbria. It overlooks Orvieto, offering stunning views of one of Italy’s most beautiful hill towns. Guests can enjoy a peaceful village pace yet be in the heart of Orvieto in just 20 minutes. Orvieto’s position on the main north-south rail line and autostrada makes it a perfect jumping-off point for day trips to many popular tourist destinations in central Italy. A 10-minute drive from Benano is Torre Alfina, recently selected one of Italy’s “most beautiful small towns,” which features a picturesque castle, a good restaurant, and the best gelato in the area. Twenty minutes further along quaint back roads is Lake Bolsena, Europe's largest volcanic lake, which offers fishing, sailing, swimming, and sunbathing. Driving thirty to forty-five minutes in another direction, you reach the four gems of southern Tuscany – Pitigliano, Sorano, Sovana, and the spa town of San Casciano dei Bagni. Benano is close to another jewel, Civita di Bagnoregio, which travel expert Rick Steves calls “Italy’s classic hill town” and his personal favorite. Equally convenient to Benano are the many acclaimed towns that have attracted travelers to Umbria and Tuscany for centuries – Umbria’s ceramic towns of Deruta; Tuscany’s wine meccas, Montalcino and Montepulciano; Perugia, the capital of Umbria and Italy’s chocolate capital; Pienza, home to Tuscany’s finest cheese; the renowned thermal springs and spas of Chianciano, San Filippo and Saturnia; and Monticchiello, a tiny gem in the Tuscan hills. Viceno, only a mile from Benano, has a small store and a place for coffee. The nearby villages of Castel Viscardo (2 miles), Castel Giorgio (3 miles), and Torre Alfina (5 miles) also have restaurants, groceries, bakeries, cafés, gelaterias, and pharmacies.
