Walnut hill is a currently a quaint 2 bedroom, 1 bath cabin with outdoor hot tub jacuzzi… all tucked in a wooded corner bordering the Yellow River Forest.Walnut hill has one bedroom upstairs in the loft with a queen bed, the master bedroom downstairs with a queen bed as well, and a hide-a-bed queen sofa in the Living Room. It has a full kitchen with new appliances, ….stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, pots/pans, central Heat ….and WiFi with cable TV. This cabin also features a nice deck with a barbecue gas grill. Just behind the cabin you can start hiking and exploring miles of trails in the Yellow River Forest. Relax in the cozy living room with the woodburning stove or enjoy a fire on the wood burning stove.

1 night stay

Nice place. Enjoyed our stay. But..Kitchen sink leaking into a pot had a odor. Could use a good deep clean but overall it was a nice night away for the two of us. We would definitely stay again

A little pricy and not very clean.

The location was nice and we enjoyed having a hot tub. Unfortunately the hot tub lid was falling apart so the hot tub had little styrofoam floaters in it and the temp. wouldn't stay at/ above 100. There was also a hearty asian ladybeetle population inside with us and much of the silverware wasn't clean.

Great Couple's Getaway

We really enjoyed our stay at Walnut Ridge. The cabin is beautiful, clean, and super cozy when the wood stove is on. It was too cold to get in the hot tub, but we did get out for a nice hike across the road. Beautiful state woods with a small pond and lots of trails.

cute cabin!!

Cute little remote cabin! I think property manager lives on site a ways up along with 2 nearby cabins. Hot tub was great but jets/blower stopped working after an hour. Not sure if that’s a setting or an issue. Pans / utensils included - bring own sheets / blankets / towels / firewood. Cute little place!

Great location

This property was awesome, buddy and I stayed here for 3 nights while Turkey hunting the yellow river forest. Perfect cabin for what we needed! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get away and enjoy some peace and quiet!

Will rent again!

Our group consisted of my husband & I and our oldest daughter, son-in-law, and a 15 & 8 yr old children. We all love being out in nature. This place gave us that and privacy. We spent a lot of our time out on the covered decks listening to the birds. We're already talking about booking another stay here!

AWESOME

This cabin was amazing, right alongside of the state forest with hiking trails. Perfect for us (a couple) just wanting to get away from the cities. The hot tub was the icing on the cake. Great place. So happy for our time at this little gem!

10 year anniversary

The cabin was peaceful. We were looking to get away and was great. Just a few observations, I think if you replace the seal on the front that might help with mice problems. There are holes on the front porch need covered for bats. And there were ants. But still a nice place to stay

Cabin

Pros: Remote and quiet. Hot tub was awesome. Lots of hot water and beds were comfortable. Kitchen utensils were adequate. Host responded timely to an issue with door lock. Cons: Know it is located over 4 miles off a paved road and you will need to wash your car. Loft queen bed has no outlets… bring a flashlight. Shower stall is small. Bad time of year for flys. The cabin could use a good cleaning… the table and coffee table were so sticky paper stuck to them.

Nice Cabin

The Cabin was nice and relatively clean - our biggest issue was the incorrect listing of a King bed that turned out to be a queen, and no linens were available, which would have been nice to know before our trip. We did also have a few critters (bats, mice, and wasps) hanging around the front door, which is obviously typical of a cabin but there was a huge crack under the front door, as well, that we had to stuff to keep them out.

Cabin in NE Iowa

The location was nice and private. Hot tub nice. The listing said there was a king size bed. There was NOT. Both beds had king size FRAMES, but not mattress. There was not adequate covers on the beds. Just one lighter weight cover on the bed we used. Took the one off the upstairs bed to put on our bed for extra warmth. Over all, the cabin was a decent layout, but was not well made...the furnace could not keep up to temp set, even with space heater going , and at times with wood burning stove going. Counters, table, and cupboards were dirty. There were 2 coffee pots there, but only one worked. A toaster was supplied but it was just a ONE slice toaster. Shower was very small with a shower curtain that did not do a good job of keeping the water in the shower. We did message the host to tell him that we found things not clean and the other issues mentioned. He did reply and did refund the cleaning fee, but did not address any of the other issues we told him about, like no king size bed.

The property was nice and quiet. They had plenty of kitchen items to use. We forgot our towels so it would have been nice if those were supplied along with sheets on the beds. The hot tub also had a musty smell so we didn’t spend much time in it. That was one of the reasons why I booked that property so that was a little disappointing. Overall I’d give it a 4 out of 5 stars 🙂

Great getaway

My husband and I stayed for a getaway with our 2 dogs. This was perfect. We loved hiking the trails through the yellow river forest, located a little ways behind the cabin. The owner was very helpful when I reached out to get clarification on how to find them. We loved being able to find something to watch on TV in the evenings. The hot tub would have been amazing if it hadn't been so hot and muggy during our stay, but its that time of year. The owner did communicate promptly that there was some work being done to extend the deck around the hot tub. It didn't interfere with our stay at all. The only thing I would suggest is to update the listing. The rooms available part says the master room is a king, but it does state it is a queen in the written description. I also think it would be helpful to list in the written description that you need to bring your own sheets and linens. Overall it was great.
