Elwood's A-frame is located in the rural Rocky Mountains of Colorado. It is only 45 min from downtown Colorado Springs and 1 hour 45 mins from Denver, 40 minutes to Garden of the Gods, 1 hour to Buena Vista, and 1. 5 hours to multiple ski resorts. There is an abundance of outdoor activities nearby that make perfect day trips all year round. The home is a newly renovated original 70's A-Frame inspired by Scandinavian design. The A-frame is located near the entrance to the Fossil Beds National Monument, Wolf Sanctuary, and 10 min from National Forest access with multiple hikes, ATVing, and Jeep rentals. Visit the 3 nearby reservoirs for world-class fishing and kayaking or drive to the top of one of Colorado's tallest mountains, Pike's Peak. Upon booking, I will provide you with a house manual that details all the things to do, see, eat, and drink!
Living Essentials:
The home is 600 square feet with an open floor plan. There is a full kitchen with high-quality cookware and all dining essentials. Basics such as, cooking oil, salt and pepper, a few spices, condiments, etc. are provided. A hot bar is available with Starbucks coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The home is stocked with books, board games, and an amazing Sonos sound system indoors and out. The Norwegian gas fireplace is a wonderful source of heat and ambiance. All high-quality linens, and towels are freshly-washed right before your stay.
Bed & Bath:
Both the loft and downstairs rooms have super comfortable memory foam queen beds. The bathroom has a spa-like walk-in shower and many toiletries and extras in case you forgot to bring something.
Hot tub:
The 5-person spa truly sets this place apart from all the rest. It sits up on the deck overlooking the mountains during the day and stargazes at night. Most nights in the Rockies are clear enough to see the Milky Way and star-gazing is exceptional here, especially when kicking back in the hot tub with a glass of wine.
Outdoor Living:
The 2 acres of land are mostly wooded and back up to a 600-acre ranch. The seasonal outdoor space includes 2 decks with stunning views, hot tub, café lights, Adirondack chairs, and a gas grill.
Privacy and Road Noise:
While the home feels private and secluded, it is still in a neighborhood (like most mountain homes in Colorado in order to reduce environmental impact). There is little to no road noise, and most of the time it is absolutely silent. The closest neighbors are behind the A-frame, they have a couple of dogs that may bark upon your arrival but you won't them much after that.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the entire home and amenities. The only limited access is the laundry which is available upon request for guest staying longer than 2 nights. The shed is also locked and kept as an owner's closet. Please make yourself at home.
The Neighborhood:
Located in a mountain community with wooded space between the neighbors and plenty of privacy. Feel free to go for walks around the neighborhood and experience the abundant wildlife.
Getting Around:
There is parking for 3 cars next to the A-frame and two more additional spots at the end of the driveway carved into the hillside. You will need a car to get around. There is no Public Transit, Uber or Lyft, if you find a rideshare consider yourself lucky.
Other Things to Note:
FIRES: Absolutely NO open fires. Forest fires are a very serious and real threat in the dry Colorado climate. Making a fire in the fire pit or anywhere else will result in being asked to leave without a refund. It may also result in a huge fine from the county during a fire ban.
WINTER: The driveway is plowed after 5 inches or so. AWD or 4X4 is REQUIRED Nov through April; however, please understand that it can snow as early as Oct and into early May. If you do not have access to an AWD or 4x4, you may park at the bottom of the driveway off the main road and walk up the driveway to the A-frame but this will not be ideal.
INTERNET/TV: WiFi is provided via Teller WiFi, you may notice a white dish on the front of the deck, this is for the WiFi. It has been newly upgraded to a 10MB download speed with is plenty fast enough for remote work, zoom calls, gaming, and streaming. A 32in Roku tv is located in the back bedroom, loaded with all the steaming channels, just need your login. Music streaming is done on the Sonos system, it is easier if you download the app from the supplied QR code on the device itself.
ELEVATION: The A-frame is at 8,600 feet. Some people experience minor to severe symptoms from the altitude (headache, sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, etc.). If you are coming from a lower elevation and are sensitive to altitude, I HIGHLY recommend giving yourself at least a day to acclimate in the Denver/Boulder area. Staying super hydrated and avoiding alcohol will also help prevent these symptoms. The natural bedrock spring water direct from the sink is some of the best water in the US, so please stay well hydrated during your time and always have water with you on day trips.
SEPTIC SYSTEM The A-frame is on a septic system and Well water. It is very important you don't flush anything besides waste and bathroom tissue.
Interaction with Guests:
Hosts will be available by text or phone during your stay.
