Outdoor enthusiasts will love the proximity to Deep Creek Lake State Park, only seven and a half miles away, and a trip to the mountains and Wisp Resort, 15 miles away, is a must for any getaway.

This mountain escape offers endless in-home entertainment and convenience, making it the perfect retreat for those needing a break from it all. Unwind with a soothing soak in the private hot tub, or gather around the firepit to share stories and roast s'mores with loved ones. While the lush yard isn't enclosed, it's surrounded by trees that provide a sense of seclusion and privacy. The deck offers a great outdoor dining space, complete with a table, chairs, and a gas grill for enjoying meals al fresco.

Inside, the cozy main living area is warmed by a wood-burning stove, offering the perfect atmosphere for relaxation. With no WiFi, this is your chance to fully disconnect and enjoy some peaceful downtime. But don't worry, there's plenty of entertainment! You’ll find board games, a TV with DirecTV, and a DVD player for movie nights. The well-equipped kitchen has all the essentials for preparing delicious home-cooked meals, and additional perks include an on-site washer/dryer for added convenience.

Just okay

Pros: Quiet, peaceful location, house was very clean, rustic and cozy Cons: Many items not in working order, including the DVD player, lighter for fireplace, can opener, lamps, and upstairs heater. I reached out to the property manager asking about the DVD player and got a response after our trip was over. With some TLC, this property could be nice again.We will not be returning to this property.

Springtime in The Mountains!

We loved Poppy’s Cabin! We met family about 17 miles away for our early Easter Gathering. It was so nice to return to this lovely cabin in the woods. We so enjoyed the wildlife and the lake, and our daughter and 2 Grandbabies enjoyed scouting for bears ( which we didn’t find one, but fun to look)! We plan to return to Poppy’s just as soon as we can. Happy Easter

Needs some updates

There were some disappointing things about this property that we think could easily be fixed. 1-Terribly uncomfortable couches. The bottom cushions kept sliding out, so you'd have to get up and push them in pretty often. And our group was there in the cold months for a crafting / hangout time, so being comfortable in the living room was important. There were only 4 of us, which fit us all comfortably, but if the full 7 people stayed, there's no way everyone could fit on the LR furniture. 2- Less remotes / more instructions on how to work them and the TV and DVD player. One was missing batteries. 3- A bunch of the dining room chairs are just about to be broken - they were loose and felt unstable to sit on. 4- Provide more paper towels and toilet paper or tell people before they arrive you are only providing 1! We didn't know that until we read the book when we got there. 5- In the cold months, if a cleaning company comes before the guests arrive, increase the heat temps the day of. 6- Wood was supposed to be provided, but there was hardly any there. This was disappointing because it was one of the reasons we booked the house. 7- Could use some extra blankets. Lastly, dealing with Vacasa sucks. We asked them a question a week before we arrived and never heard back. There was some good about this property though - The hot tub was incredibly clean, the beds were super comfortable, & the location was good. We all left saying we would not come back to this property.

Fall getaway

Loved the hot tub and location. It was a great home base for exploring swallow falls and deep creek. The house could have been cleaner and there was no firewood as promised in earlier communication. The bed we slept on was pretty comfortable. But the house it a little musty and outdated.

It was just what we needed. There are things that would have made this a 5 star review as well as a more amplified experience. We stayed there 5 days. 3 trash bags were given and one roll of paper towels. Not a huge inconvenience but we were there for 5 days. Better quality sheets. The sheets were rough. Not comfortable in the least bit…better bedding in general. There were dust bunnies along the pictures and curtains and floor. They were along the chairs too. I understand this is a place in the middle of nowhere, but when you have severe allergies this is a bummer. There was cobwebs all over too and dirt. No where in the listing does it say you are to bring your own beach towels, except for in the book. That should be stated…in the listing. The closet doors on both closets in both the bedrooms are broken. One swings out one swings in. Not a huge thing but something that should be fixed. The shower heads spray Wildly everywhere. Dishwasher tabs were provided but no dishwasher? The dishes in the cabinet were dirty and needed to be cleaned before use. Not a sharp knife in the drawer or house. Lake access was not available. The surround sound speakers are blown and do not work properly. Extension cord central *behind* the 5 different devices you need to be an IT professional to figure out. Lamps with extension cords that did not reach the plugs. Hot water is very limited. We had 4 adults showering 5-7 minutes each total, and had to space them over over a two

Cozy Cabin

Very cozy and very clean, but a little older and smaller than the pictures portray. Great place to stay in the area though. We did have some issues with the hot tub at first, which was the main reason we booked here (Wrong Key to open cover, then wasn't heating to temp). It was resolved by the 2nd night, but was an inconvenience. Would def stay again though.

Beautiful property, some minor things to be aware of

We had a great time at this cottage, which was really cozy and nicely decorated! There are some things I would warn future potential guests about. First, vehicles with all-wheel drive are essential for the neighborhood, as our group had to push vehicles multiple times when it snowed and the roads hadn't been plowed. Second, the oven's dashboard was a bit glitchy, and we had to smack the oven a few times to get it to show the temperature (after calling the owner for advice). Also, the lock for the sliding door was really difficult for us to lock. It took about five minutes and a few different people trying before we could get it, and this happened a few times throughout our stay. Finally, there were some inconsistencies about amenities provided on the VRBO listing and what the owner wrote in the property info. Fortunately, we were able to communicate with them to get clarification (whether sheets/towels are provided), but it seems like something that could be easily fixed.

Perfect Winter Getaway

This house was just what we were looking for in a winter week away from the city. Great location, nice space, well-equipped kitchen, and cozy fireplace -- plus so many great state parks close by. Rose was very easy to communicate with, and check in and out were simple. Highly recommend!

Great weekend getaway!

We went for a long weekend (4 adults and 2 kids). It was the perfect size and fit all of our needs. Although the kitchen could use a little updating, it was a very cute place and a very good location. Also, we loved the fire pit!

Quiet get away

We had planned state parks and hiking/kayaking etc. Unfortunately it rained. Glad to have a quiet cottage to relax. We enjoyed the hot tub between the rain too.

A wooded retreat

We rented the cabin for a short family vacation. My husband and my’s first vacation with our new little family (a 3yr old & 6month old). The cabin house was just as described and pictured. The wonder of its charm not displayed lays in the very “on-brand” decor! There are lovely embellishments throughout - from the adorable black bear-themed dish set, to the night light covers, skis over the fireplace, and old-time decor in every room. It was lovely. My 3yr old especially loved the family of stuffed black bears. The kitchen is highly functional for cooking meals. The oven is a classic and works very well. The deck is expansive, providing lots of seating outside for eating or lounging. And the hot tub was a real treat. This place is truly cozy cabin away from the bustle - you can listen to the trees sway in the breeze.

Wonderful house in the woods

Very nice house in a nice wooded area. We were in town for a wedding and chose to stay a couple of extra days in the area. The house was well located and had good amenities. Particularly the fire pit in the backyard. It was well taken care of, and as advertised. We didn’t have much contact with the owners or caretakers but we did actually leave something and the owners recovered it and sent it to us right away. They wouldn’t even let us reimburse them for the shipping, very sweet of them! All in all a great experience all the way around. Highly recommended.

Three night getaway

Property is just perfect. Home is comfortable and cozy. Not too big, not too small. Decorated wonderfully with local art and outdoor woods/ nature theme. March is a great off season. No crowds, only a few people in the parks and on the hiking trails. Very secluded, yet part of a community. Great place to unplug and disconnect. Felt like we were away longer!

Glorious girls weekend

We had a wonderful girls weekend! Rose was so accommodating answering all of our questions quickly. I loved that she checked in via text to make sure all was well but still gave us plenty of privacy. I can’t wait to come back in the summer!

Poppy's Mountain House is a perfectly cozy family oriented experience!

Where do I even begin!?! In keeping with our recent tradition of going away for the holiday, we decided this year we would take a trip to DCL. In searching for a place we came across Rose's~ Poppy's Mountain House! Rose was very accommodating and definitely a super host! We loved everything about the cozy house nestled far back at the end of the lane! The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to make our meals at home instead of eating out as that was our plan due to COVID on the rise again. Our main goal for our trip for our family of 4 was to just relax, eat, enjoy the hot tub and play some games! All was easily accomplished! So many great games to select from and lots of great movie selections on the TV. We didn't even need to break out the DVD player. The beds were very comfortable!! Almost better than my sleep number bed 😉! The indoor fireplace kept us nice and toasty while we watched TV and hung out in the living room! And then there was the hot tub! My rule when we go away is...it better have a hot tub!!! and well Poppy's Mountain house did not disappoint!! I won't lie, I may have taken several dips in the hot tub throughout the day and night during our stay!! The sky was completely majestic at night with the moon settled behind the empty branches and Mars could be seen off to the far right! So mysterious yet serene! The atmosphere inside and out is just so peaceful and relaxing! This house was the perfect size for us! My only initial concern was how in the world I was going to get in the hot tub with my short little legs, as there was not a step to help you get it in, BUT with the help of the fence around the porch I quickly figured it out!!! Problem solved!! And although we didn't get to enjoy the fire pit, porch and other outdoor amenities besides the hot tub, for this trip, I am definitely looking forward to that in the future!! I highly recommend Poppy's Mountain House! You will not be disappointed!!! Thank you Rose for being such a gracious host! There is no doubt we will be returning to your beautiful mountain home in the future!

Cozy

This cabin was great for our trip with family friends. There are 2 adult rooms downstairs and 3 twin beds in the room upstairs. I thought the beds were pretty comfortable. The kids loved it! It was cozy for our autumn getaway. We enjoyed the fireplace, making s’mores at the fire pit and the beautiful autumn views. I would love to go back in warmer weather to take advantage of the lake.
