We stayed a week in February, but had very severe weather with rain, sleet, snow (worst in 20 yrs!) and a bit of sunshine!
The village of Miraflores is a real delight, with cafes, bars and restaurants all within easy walking distance. Good T.O. in main square. The train station in village is closed, but maybe just in the Winter? We decided to drive into Madrid (1 hour easy drive) and also used the underground metro with no problems. Be aware that in the Winter it is a good 4-5 degrees colder up in the mountains.
Firstly I would emphasise that this is not what you might expect from a "villa"; it is in fact like an apartment. It is one big house, which has been divided up, and the owner lives in the main part, attached next door (some minor living noise through the walls). The accommodation is all on one floor, with terrific high ceilings, and it is very beautifully decorated, with a roaring log fire in Winter, and stylish decor. We were expecting a spacious villa with room for the kids to run around, but It is not ideal for a large family with children, but rather more suited to adults in my opinion.
The kitchen area is very clean but basic, with no oven or kettle, no wine glasses(!)but does have a microwave and electric hob. Also there is absolutely no information provided in the house ie. no maps, instructions on appliances in house, no emergency contact details, no visitors book, no tourist information, and no handy hints for places to eat, visit, explore. Definitely one for the independant traveller. Bring your own.
The Dutch owner Frank was very friendly and attentive, and helpful providing us with a welcome food pack on request. He also made sure we had enough logs for the fire when it was minus 1 degree!
Unfortunately the internet WiFi didn't work for us, which was a problem for my husband who needed to contact his work. However the internet cafe in the village is great and very helpful. Frank tells us that many visitors have used the internet successfully so it may well have been our computer with the problem!
Be warned for those travelling with children, there is only Spanish TV with no DVD player, and no English channels. Thank goodness for the Winter Olympics! Im sure in the Summer time the TV is not an issue at all.
The beds are great, really comfortable, and plenty of towels and linen provided. Lovely to have 3 bathrooms, although small and shower rooms. Im sure the swimming pool would be fab in the warmer months.
