Villa Ariadne - Stylish vacation home with all amenities

Villa Aridane is located in the small village of Melidoni in the Apakoronas region of Western Crete. Set in picturesque countryside with olive groves and views of the White Mountains, the house is close to the region's beautiful beaches, traditional villages and lively markets. Here you can enjoy authentic Crete in an idyllic setting - an ideal place to relax and explore!

The villa is built from traditional quarry stone and offers plenty of space for four people with two bedrooms, a living room, large balcony and terrace.

On the ground floor are the kitchen, two bedrooms, bathroom and guest toilet with shower. The living room and the very large balcony are on the first floor. The first bedroom has a double bed. The second bedroom has two single beds. Both bedrooms have their own air conditioning and patio doors to the garden. The living room is on the first floor of the house and has two exits to the large balcony. From the balcony you have fantastic views of the White Mountains, the bay of Souda and the beach of Georgioupoli.

The house is surrounded by a beautiful garden. The terrace is just above the pool in front of the house. Next to the house there is a bricked barbecue. The pool is 4m*8m. In the cooler months it can be heated with a pool heater (pool heating on request, € 15.00 per 24 hours).

The villa has a solar hot water system and a photovoltaic system so that during the sunny summer months electricity and hot water are generated in an environmentally friendly way using only solar energy.

Bed linen, towels and pool towels are included in the price. The house is cleaned and linen changed every 4 days.

Serene mountain getaway

We loved being away from it all but with adventures nearby.. beaches, hiking, biking, small villages with excellent dining and historical value. An excellent option after hopping from island to island for some downtime .

Great Hosts, Beautiful Home

Beautifully located in the foothills of Crete, but close to villages where you can shop for food, go to beaches, or find a nice taverna with traditional food. It was the highlight of our trip to Crete!

Magical Place

There is something magical about relaxing by the pool while looking at the snow on the mountain peaks and then turning and seeing the Aegean in the distance. The hosts were wonderful and made us feel welcome without being obtrusive. The quiet at night was a peaceful respite after our time in Athens. We hope to return as the fates allow.

A beautiful property, in a wonderful location

We had a wonderful week in this beautiful property. The house (and its garden/pool) were perfect, and the location was delightful (we enjoyed walking up into the hills/mountains directly from the house). We would highly recommend this property and very much hope to return for a holiday here ourselves in the future.

Wonderful family holiday

We had a wonderful time staying at this beautiful villa. The location is truly magical. It was well equipped for families with great cot and high chair, also plastic cup/plate/bowls which was very helpful. A starter pack of ‘basics’ was also really helpful. Our daughter loved playing in the shallow walled off area of the swimming pool which she immediately claimed as hers. The owners were very responsive and helpful prior to the holiday, and lovely when we met them in Crete. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend this villa to anyone looking for a chilled holiday location.

Fabulous villa in stunning location

I highly recommend Villa Ariadne. Spotlessly clean on arrival with a very generous welcome pack of provisions. The location is wonderful with views of the mountains and of the coastline, and with a generous sized swimming pool. You could easily laze away the days without moving from the villa and have a peaceful and restorative holiday. However, it's also great as a base to explore the countryside and the coast - only approx 20 mins drive to the nearest beach and 10-15 to the main east-west road that takes you to other parts of the island (car is essential if staying here). Hosts very responsive if you need anything. Cannot fault anything about the stay - truly wonderful.

We booked 10 days at Villa Ariadne, largely on the basis of previous reviewers' comments... They weren't wrong! The location (quiet, peaceful, relaxing, extraordinary views), the property itself (well equipped, tastefully furnished, thoughtful touches courtesy of the owners) and our hosts Samantha and Jerry (friendly, welcoming, helpful, unobtrusive) -- all lived up to the promise. Unquestionably 5 stars.

Comfortable Villa in an Amazing Place

After a long day of travel from Germany, we were delighted to arrive under the cover of darkness, and unusually (as we were later told) strong winds. Opening the door we were greeted by the wooden decor of the Villa and felt right at home in minutes. The morning sun and the strong winds came together for absolutely amazing views of the White Mountains to the south and the coast far below. The Villa was fully stocked and provide this family of four more than enough room to be comfortable for the entire week. The private pool was a hit with the kids and with the lights turned on at night added to the ambiance and view from the upper balcony during late evening meals as the sun set behind the mountains. Locate about 25 minutes from Chania it is the perfect distance to the airport and attractions while at the same time providing maximum seclusion - literally at the end of the road in the foothills of the mountains. Stavros--you'll meet him--was both incredibly gracious and helpful in welcoming us to Melidoni and helping us plan our week. We had a great time and are already talking about going back.

Excellent property in stunning location

Stayed last week at this lovely newly built and extremely well appointed stone house. Ariadne and Amalthea, the house next door, offer a peaceful, unspoilt, quiet location with superb views from every aspect of the spectacular mountains and the coast. Both the inside and outside space of the house has been well designed. Inside the house the furnishings are of a high standard and the beds were extremely comfortable. The shaded first floor dining terrace gives a stunning panoramic view and is to die for! The private pool is well maintained with a separate shallow area for children. In the garden and at the poolside the owners have thoughtfully provided lots of choice of comfy seating areas. Melidoni is a lovely small village with a coffee/beer house. Within a short drive there are supermarkets and many excellent local taverna restaurants that serve good local dishes. We were told that WiFi is to be installed shortly, at the moment it can be accessed from local taverna's. The house's are managed locally by Stavros who is very friendly and helpful with any queries. He is also a mine of information about the local area and interesting places to visit. We will definitely be returning as soon as possible to this very special place in Melidoni!

Beautiful property with bags of character & amazing views.

Villa Ariadne is a small piece of paradise tucked away in the hills but near enough to visit the local coastal resorts. The views were amazing whichever way you looked out from the villa. The mountains to the rear were particularly beautiful in the early morning light, whilst the view down to the coast from the front of the villa was equally impressive. The villa itself was full of character and particularly well designed. It was a pleasure to stay here. We loved the building!! A fantastic base for a relaxing break. Not sure how old the property is but it felt new. Extremely clean and well maintained, as was the pool. Stavros was really easy to deal with and gave us lots of tips on where to visit and where to get good local Cretan food. We found the whole experience straightforward. Samantha and Jeremy Storer helped us through the booking process and suppled directions for finding the villa on the day of our arrival which was spot on. The villa was cleaned thoroughly halfway through our stay along with a change of towels and bedding. Probably to a higher standard than most hotels I have stayed in previously. Overall, a fabulous villa and I suspect that at some point we may return. Phil Witcomb & Amanda Carter.

Beautiful" Away from it all" location

A beautifully appointed villa with lots of space and amazing views. Access is not for the faint hearted, especially in the dark..... we avoided local hedgehog, polecat, sheep and assorted kittens. You definitely need a manual gearbox on your vehicle to cope with the steep bendy roads. Best local taverna is in Vamos -about 10 km away. Despite the cloudy, wet weather we found sun everyday- Look on www.poseideon.gr. Also it is up to 10C cooler at the villa than at the coast..... this created some wardrobe dilemmas! Stravros is a mine of information from weather, shopping and beaches to appropriate driving styles. We had a lovely time packingin a trip to Elafonisi, Chora Sfakion, Knossos, Hania, Kalyves and the last day on the Akratiri peninsula where we visited wonderful monastries and beautiful sunny beaches (at Stravros), having checked out in rain at Melidoni and wondered how to spend the time until our 22.30 flight. You can still be on the beach 20 minutes before check-in opens. We used maps and Waze to find our way around but.... follow the written instructions from Samantha and Jeremy to the villa, otherwise you might end up on your way to the Melidoni caves towards Iraklion, if we had not overuled our tech savy daughter!

Schöne Unterkunft mit herrlicher Aussicht auf die Weißen Berge

Wir haben eine tolle Woche im Oktober verlebt. Die Unterkunft ist super in Schuss, geräumig und bietet mit Pool, Riesen Terrasse und fantastischer Aussicht auf die Weißen Berge viele Anreite, einfach am Haus zu entspannen. Das Haus ist Teil eines kleinen Ensembles von Ferienhäusern. Alles sehr gepflegt und ruhig auf ca 409 Metern Höhe etwas außerhalb des Dorfes Melidoni gelegen (kleiner Tipp: Google Plus Code „ 94P8+RMR Melidoni, Griechenland“ ins Handy eingeben, damit man nicht im falschen Melidoni landet). Ansonsten braucht man ein Auto. Der nächste Supermarkt ist ca 10 Minuten Fahrt entfernt.

Great property in a peacful and stunning location. Local shop just a short drive away, we were also able to visit local towns on the north and south coast of Crete. Fabulous tavernas close by made this a great holiday

Peace of paradise

The stay on creta and the villa is stunning in all ways. The kind welcome from Samantha and jerry was felt through groceries and a perfect full of detail and equipement villa which made us feel like a home right away. Be prepared to stunning views to the sea and mountains. The sounds of goats. We saw an owl in The beautiful garden with fruit, bbq and the pool with great temperature in October. There’s nothing I can think of which we didn’t love about this place. We recommend highly and would love to come back.

Fabulous villa

We had a fabulous holiday. The villa was just what we wanted. Situated in a quiet, beautiful setting with stunning views. The villa was perfect and well equipped. On arrival we were met by Samantha which was lovely. The little touches were thoughtful for example the welcome pack of food essentials, towels etc. You need a car to get about but we like that. Beach was 15 minutes away with lots of restaurants to choose from. The best part of the villa was definitely the pool kids loved. Would highly recommend, would certainly return

Beautiful

We had a wonderful time at this villa. Up in hills and away from it all you really get a feel for authentic western Crete. Easy to get to Chania, Chora Svakion etc but far enough away from the hustle and bustle to relax and enjoy the peaceful location. Pool was immaculate and the village Tavernas nearby were a joy. Thoroughly recommend.

Outstanding Location for Tranquility, Views and Nature Walks

When researching potential villas, location was the prime consideration and this villa easily fulfilled that goal. It is peaceful - literally on the edge of wonderful countryside - great for nature walks - and has spectacular views south up to the mountains and north down to the coast. The villa itself is of a very high standard and well equipped. The pool is lovely. The owners were very welcoming friendly and helpful. They gave us good advice places to visit , activities, restaurants etc. (supplemented by further print form information a folder inside the villa) In conclusion, a first rate villa which is in a truly exceptional location for those looking for proximity to nature and great landscape views.
