My Favourite Place

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We spent most mornings drinking coffee and counting turtles. It was pretty magical being so close to the ocean and watching wild life by day and the sunset and stars at night. The road can be noisy but the location is fantastic and we will be back again.

#214 is not the best unit at Hale Kai

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was more than happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have stayed in another unit at Hale Kai multiple times but made our reservation late and had to go with #214 for this recent trip. The location of Hale Kai is fantastic because of the quick access to beaches, proximity to the ocean, and views. Unit #214 however, is very overdue for an update. The paint is peeling on the walls in the bedroom, and bathroom. The cabinets in both the bathroom and kitchen are in far worse conditions than the photos on the website show. The curtains in the bedrooms are dirty and have a layer of cobwebs/dirt on the top edge that is so thick that it has to have been accumulating for years. One of the bedroom lights didn't work. The bathroom fixtures are in terrible shape and there is mold under the silicone in the shower. I will say that the unit was clean when we got there. The people cleaning do a great job with what they have to work with. The bed and bedding were clean and seemed new. The carpet seems relatively new, but carpet isn't what I would put in a rental property on the beach. I expect that it won't seem clean for long. The pool, parking lot, beach access, and walkways are all well maintained. Fronting the pool and backing on to the parking lot/ road made it very noisy. The other renters were nice and reasonable but even a normal conversation in the parking lot is loud if you are trying to fall asleep. Cars starting and construction vans in the parking lot makes it almost continuously noisy. A carpet cleaning company came and they ran a very loud pump for at least and hour one afternoon. Obviously, this work has to get done and it isn't their fault but with no air conditioning you need to keep the windows open and you hear it all. On this particular trip there were a ton of kids and the noise from the pool was very loud as well. If you are particular about your vacation accommodations you will not be happy with this unit.

Great location and views

The location was great as Kaanapali always has breezes for cooling and this condo has access to both a public beach to the left of the building and a private beach to the right. Also Kaanapali has great infrastructure so no fear of flooding.Grounds and pool are very well maintained by Monday to Friday manager who works those days and on the weekend an onsite owner.Got to see turtles very close up on the beach eating seaweed off the coral, saw monk seal catching and eating fish off shore and lots of whales far off shore.Note if you are looking for peace and quiet this condo may not for you as you get to continually hear the surf and with louvered screed windows open to allow air flow you do hear your neighbors normally generated sounds. Also on the Lanai the wall between you and your neighbor does not extend all the way to the railing (see picture). They do have quiet hours implemented 10PM to 8AM but because of the nature of having the louvered screened windows open in all the units you do hear some noise from your neighbors after 10 but its not bad, just a warning if you are looking for complete quiet and peace then this unit not from you.The cabinets and walls in bathroom could be updated as well worn but all was very clean and easily usable so for the price it was fine.

Ideal Location and Relaxing Atmosphere

Reviewer Comments: Hale Kai has a wonderful beachfront setting in northwest Maui, with easy access by car to a wealth of excellent beaches for swimming and snorkeling. The building is low-rise, small-scale, and free from the overbuilt feeling of many Hawaii resorts. We loved watching sunset and sunrise from our lanai, listening to the waves through the night, and making Hale Kai our home for the week.

Incredible Location

The unit hasn't been modernized, but it is quaint and comfortable. We had everything we needed for our stay. We love the location of the Hale Kai. It's so convenient to be near the shops and the park. The pool is lovely. The Sunset Conch shell blowing is a delightful tradition.

Hale Kai is a beautiful place in Maui

Great time/not a great room

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved Maui. And we loved the location of our condo. It really needs a little TLC. Bedroom doors are off the tracks.(tried several times to fix finally gave up) We tried to keep our place tidy but the vacuum did not work and broom was falling apart. They have just 1 fan and it was duck taped together and was very weak. No cleaning supplies were provided. Glass table tops and counters need to be cleaned daily. The shower was interesting.. water pressure good but not the easiest to climb into. Very odd high tile. Several of the kitchen cabinets would not close and the garbage (under the sink fell off) Actually it was a really nice place. It needs a little love. And the carpet was a little weird too. I would recommend this property to a friend just not room 214. Thank you for your time. AnneMarie Parola

Whale watching delight

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We spent 10 glorious days at Hale Kai in units 214 and 215. They are in a perfect location for all manner of Maui activities. Great sidewalks for walking. Easy to get to the stores and restaurants and best part was it was whale watching season. We didn't want to go anywhere since the views were outstanding. We saw hundreds of humpbacks spy hopping, tail slapping and spouting. Also, the green sea turtles hang around the beach everyday. It was a real treat. The condos were well appointed. Just wish we had brought our binoculars.

Heaven on Earth

It was my first time staying on the second floor. And, after staying up on the second floor, I will only on the second floor in the future. Room 214, has a beautiful view and is private when sitting out on the lani. It was my new Wife’s first time to Maui, and she was at awe at the view and the beauty of the Hale Kai. I have and will always highly recommend the Hale Kai, and room 214. We, have already booked to come back for our first anniversary.

AC would be nice in July

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Stayed here in July. The place is lovely and has a spectacular view of the ocean (and pool). Great location as well. Though it's not the most "modern" unit, it has everything you might need. The only drawback was that it gets very warm without AC. It might be fine in other months, but in July, keeping the fans running and the windows open just wasn't enough.

Maui Vacation

The property was very clean, excellent ocean side facility. The views are killer. Giant turtles less than 20 feet off shore feeding on the laver rocks. Weather was very good.
